Ersun Görener, Senior Sales Manager of infraTest Prüftechnik GmbH, is an internationally experienced, recognized expert in the field of asphalt testing technology and asphalt additives. Additionally, he is the CEO of AAIB infraTest India Pvt. Ltd. and of infraTest Digital Solutions GmbH. Through his ideas and his commitment to quality assurance, he distinguishes himself internationally as a driver of innovation.

infraTest Prüftechnik GmbH deals with the development, manufacture, sale, and trade of testing and analysis devices for testing asphalt, concrete, cement, and soil. InfraTest is a global provider of testing technology and the world market leader in its field.

Ersun Görener studied at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, and received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in civil engineering.

He is currently a member of EAPA's Technical Committee and General Council and Asphalt 4.0. He also supports the Research Society for Roads and Traffic (FGSV, Germany) through his active membership.

Dr. Robert Heger has been Vice President of Business Management Dispersions EMEA for Construction & Architectural Coatings since 2013. He joined BASF in 1997 and since then has held various positions and expanded his international expertise at BASF East Asia.

Dr. Robert Heger studied physical chemistry at the University of Cologne. After completing his diploma thesis, he went to the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1996 from the University of Potsdam.

Dr. Mario Šandor

Dr. Mario Šandor studied chemistry at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. He obtained his doctorate in analytical chemistry and researched postdoctoral at Lehigh University in the US. Mario joined BASF in 1998 and since then has held various positions, e.g. New Business Development, Head of Sales automotive fluids, Head of Marketing Polyalcohols. He supports various associations through his membership, including the European Asphalt Association (EAPA), the German Asphalt Association (DAV) and the International Association of Laboratories and Experts for Building Materials (RILEM).

Tess Sigwarth studied Industrial Engineering and Management with a specialization in Civil Engineering at TU Braunschweig. Since 2020, she has been a research associate at the Braunschweig Pavement Engineering Centre at TU Braunschweig under the direction of Prof. Michael P. Wistuba. She received the MATTHÄI-Straßenbaupreis 2020 for her master's thesis on the visualization of rheological asphalt binder data using the 2S2P1D-model. The focus of her research and teaching activities is on the characterization and rheological modelling of bituminous materials. In this context, she is particularly focused on performance-oriented testing methods (creep tests, fatigue tests, relaxation tests) of bitumen and asphalt mastic using the Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR).

Mahmoud Khadijeh

Mahmoud Khadijeh studied Civil & Environmental Engineering at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon after receiving his bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering and Management at the Tishreen University, Latakia, Syria.
Since 2022, he has been PhD candidate at the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands under the supervision of Dr. Aikaterini Varveri.
His research focuses on testing methods and within the context of his work, he is developing a multiscale, data-driven, and physics-based model to predict the performance of bituminous mixtures by using finite element and machine learning models.

Mariam Abedraba Abdalla

University of Nottingham


Mariam Abedraba received her MSc degree in International Project Management in Construction, Oil & Gas and Renewble energy at the Glasgow Caledonian University after studying Civil Engineering at the University of Jaén, Spain. Since 2020, she has been a PhD student in Civil Engineering supervised by Alvaro Garcia at the University of Nottingham. The focus of her research is on self-healing asphalt pavements.

Her project incorporates both on-site and in-lab research on the performance of cellular materials in mitigating asphalt ravelling. This innovative solution of designing asphalt with the inclusion of porous particles illustrates the possibility of increasing asphalt’s sustainability by selecting eco-friendly or nature-inspired shapes and materials.

Georgios Pipintakos, PhD

Georgios (George) Pipintakos holds a M.Eng. diploma (2015) in Civil Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and a M.Sc. diploma (2018) in Structural Engineering with Specialisation in Roads and Railways from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. Since April 2018 Georgios (George) Pipintakos is an academic assistant and PhD researcher at the department of construction engineering in the faculty of Applied Engineering (Road Engineering Research Section) at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. He has worked extensively in bituminous advancements during his education such as epoxy modification of asphalt, poroelastic materials of low-noise road surfaces and performance testing of conventional and modified binders.
Regarding his research nowadays, he will defend his PhD thesis entitled ‘Towards an enhanced understanding of the oxidative ageing mechanisms in bitumen’ on December 15th of this year (2022), supervised by Prof. Van den bergh and Dr. Soenen, and he will continue as postdoctoral researcher and academic assistant from January 2023. Finally, together with 30 early-career researchers around the globe he has established a community for young PhD researchers called ‘Young Ageing Crew’.

Kristina Hofer studied Technical Chemistry at TU Vienna. Since 2020, she has been PhD Candidate at the Institute of Transportation at TU Vienna under the supervision of Prof. Bernhard Hofko.
Her main research areas include Bituminous Materials, Chemical Analysis, Spectroscopy, Mechanical Analysis, Bitumen Aging Mechanism and Aging Simulation in the Laboratory. In this context, she is particularly focused on the impact of reactive oxygen species on bitumen aging and their incorporation in laboratory aging simulations.

Pablo Orosa Iglesias

Pablo Orosa Iglesias, PhD

Purdue University


Pablo Orosa studied Civil Engineering at the University of A Coruña, Spain and received his Ph.D. under the direction of Prof. Ignoacio Pérez and Prof. Ana R. Pasandín in June 2022.
Since September 2022, he has been a Post-Doc Researcher at the Lyles School of CE, Purdue University, USA.
His areas of interest include sustainable and innovative construction materials, particularly road pavement materials. He conducted two predoctoral stays at ÉTS of Montreal, with Prof. Carter (2021) and Purdue University, with Prof. Haddock (2022). Among his most relevant honors are two scholarships to fund his Ph.D. period and predoctoral stays from the Spanish Ministry of Economy, INDITEX company, and UDC, and two awards received, one for the Best R&D&I Project and another for the best MSc final thesis.
His research deals with the development of more efficient paving techniques, like pavement recycling in combination with low-temperature technologies to increase sustainability.

Martin Ziegenberg

Martin Ziegenberg, Head of department for transport infrastructure of Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie e.V. (HDB), is an acknowledged expert in the fields of transport, civil engineering and digitization. Additionally, he holds the position as managing director of the federal departments for road construction and mastic asphalt at HBD. Before joining the HBD, Martin Ziegenberg gathered experience in several managing positions and knows the industry by heart.

Through his commitment to various working groups of the Research Society for Roads and Traffic (FGSV, Germany) and his position as chairman of the coordination committee Bitumen (KoA-Bit), Martin Ziegenberg drives and shapes the industry by developing innovative solutions.

Martin Ziegenberg studied at the technical university of applied sciences OTH Regensburg, Germany, and received his Dipl.-Ing. (FH) degree in civil engineering.

He supports the project management of the so-called Round Table Construction Management of the Autobahn GmbH of the Federal Government through his active membership. Additionally, he is a member of the Transport Committee of Federation of Germany industry (Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V.).

Anja Sörensen

Dr. Anja Sörensen, Managing Director of Eurobitume Germany, has been active in the asphalt business for more than 30 years and has become an integral part in the industry. Before joining Eurobitume in 2015, she was able to expand her expertise through several positions in management and research in the asphalt industry.
Anja Sörensen studied Civil Engineering at Technical University of Braunschweig and received her doctorate (PhD) at the Institute for Road Engineering of Technical University of Braunschweig. In addition, she earned a degree in economics.
Since 1996, Anja Sörensen supports the German Road Research Institution (FGSV) through her active membership and commitment in various working groups of the industry. Since 2014, she is also a board member of FGSV.
In addition to her commitment to the FGSV, Anja Sörensen has been a member of CEN TC 336 and WG1 for over 20 years and is chairwoman of WG1 since 2018.

Eivind Olav Andersen

Eivind Olav Andersen has a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Norwegian University of Technology, where he started his career in 1990 in the Road and Railway Construction Department.

Before working as technical manager for Shell Bitumen for 8 years, Eivind Olav Andersen specialized in asphalt mixes and later bitumen in the field of research.

Since 2008, he has worked for the Norwegian construction company Veidekke in commercial and technical functions. Of particular importance is his continuous focus in the development area with the introduction of new technologies combined with a focus on sustainability measures in the asphalt industry. Starting with the introduction of warm mix asphalt around 2000, the issue of CO2 emissions has now been on his asphalt agenda for 23 years.

Eiving Olav Andersen served as a board member of EAPA from 2020-2022 and now, at the age of 58, he decided to start a consulting business, which is now taking shape.
